Johnnie Walker Red Label, as the workhorse of the JW stable, is widely considered to be the most popular blend of Walker worldwide. According to wikipedia, it was a favorite of Winston Churchill (who took his with soda) and King George V enjoyed it so much that he granted a Royal Warrant to the company in 1933, and JW remains to this day an official purveyor of whisky to the Royal Household.
As intended, JW Red is a mixer, serving in popular scotch cocktails. My personal favorite is a Bobby Burns, named after the famous Scottish poet. It's 1/2 whisky, 1/2 Vermouth and 3 drops benedictine (although my personal taste calls for a bit more). Squeeze a lemon rind over the surface and enjoy. This particular drink is a prohibition-era recipe that helped take the edge off of whisky that came from a still or was otherwise very strong. Today, crafting one with Johnnie Walker Red Label leaves you with a strong-yet-fragrant beverage that satisfies even the most picky drinker.
I enjoy Johnnie Walker Red Label in many ways, most days with a few ice cubes and a splash of mineral water. I find it to be an excellent balance between value and taste.
