As a tradition in my household, I receive a bottle of scotch for Father’s Day. Perhaps this is why I look forward to that hot June day far more than any other holiday on the calendar, as it is time to try a dram of something my wife and daughter thought I would enjoy. This past year, I was very pleasantly surprised, as I woke up on Father’s Day to a bottle of Glen Garioch (pronounced GEERY) 1797 Founder’s Reserve. It carries no advertised age, and an odd abv of 48%.
The tasting notes for this whisky hint at a strong, fruity start that ends in a harsh, malty swallow. It carried a strong nose to me, and I personally found it to be excellent over ice and spring water.
On a personal note, I cannot think of a better memory than celebrating Father’s Day by watching the final round of the US Open while enjoying a tall glass of Glen Garioch 1797 Founder’s Reserve single malt scotch.
