Everything about the Balvenie rings tradition. As one of the last distilleries to grow their own barley, malt in original maltings, and employ coopers to tend the casks, Balvenie whisky gets a big push forward before you even taste it. With the foundation for the distillery laid in 1886, the Balvenie remains one of Scotland’s most storied and heralded whisky houses.
The tasting notes for this whisky read well for someone just “breaking in” to scotch. Rich and honeyed with a hint of sherry fruitness, the hints of nutmeg and cinnamon will leave a warm and lingering finish with each dram, which is perfect for the novice scotch drinker.
I received a bottle as a gift from a dear friend upon my completion of an MBA. We shared a few glasses, and reminisced over the years of rounds of golf between schoolwork. On cold nights, I love to fill a rocks glass 3 fingers full and get lost in a good book.
